The leisure centre has been given the go-ahead by the Development and Planning Authority to install sliding dividers that will effectively create a separate room.

Because the building is owned by the States, after planners approved the application had to go before the Ordinary Division of the Royal Court, where it was also given the go-ahead.

A Beau Sejour spokesman said the next step was to order materials and appoint a contractor. ‘It is hoped that the project will be completed before Christmas,’ he said.

Existing bookings at the centre will not be affected.

The dividers will be fitted between the concourse pillars where the lower ceiling meets the atrium. This will provide some 460 sq. m of space across the two levels. It will be available to hire for meetings, small exhibitions and events and will have its own external entrance as well as access to the concourse toilets and bar/catering facilities.

‘There are times when there is a demand for any additional meeting area within the centre when the three existing meeting rooms are all in use,’ said the Beau Sejour spokesman.

‘The Concourse area is not used between events in the David Ferguson Hall and or Sir John Loveridge Hall so by installing the room dividers it can be used as an additional private space, but with the flexibility to still open for major events.’
