‘Jumping in Puddles for Cancer’ was launched earlier this month in Guernsey in aid of Cancer Research UK. It is the inspiration of local charity campaigner Susie Campanella, whose close friend Gary Burgess received a terminal cancer diagnosis at the end of last year.
Mr Hands said: ‘I am delighted to support “Jumping in Puddles for Cancer”.
‘Many charities have suffered during Covid through not being able to hold their usual fundraising events and charities are struggling to keep their vital work going in our communities. Which is why initiatives like this are vital at this difficult time, albeit a time that has demonstrated also how large a role the UK can play in solving global health issues. I am delighted to confirm the Hands Family Trust are donating £12,000, which matches the amount raised in the first 10 days of the campaign and we hope this will create further momentum to help them reach their target of £1m.’
The campaign aims to raise £1,000,000 for Cancer Research UK by inviting fundraisers to jump in a puddle and donate £1, or more, and upload an image of their jump onto its dedicated website, which will then be shared across social media platforms.
In addition to Mr Hands, whose business, Terra Firma Capital Management, is based in Guernsey, the campaign has received further support from the wider Channel Islands business community, including KPMG CI, Specsavers, investment firm Ravenscroft and digital marketing specialist TPA.
At national level impressionist Jon Culshaw, TV adventurer Ben Fogle, triple world motorsport champion Andy Priaulx and former England batsman Rob Key, have given the campaign their backing.
‘I am so, so, touched and grateful that Guy has lent his support to Jumping in Puddles for Cancer,’ said Ms Campanella.
‘His involvement has given the campaign a huge boost, particularly as we’re at such a crucial point of raising-awareness across the UK and beyond.’
