During that time, only 15 people tested positive out of nearly 1,900 tests

On Saturday 52 people recovered and seven new cases were found, only one of which was from an unknown community source.

And yesterday, eight cases were found. Six were contacts of known cases, one was from inbound travel and one was from planned workforce screening and is linked to a source, Public Health confirmed.

Eight patients are in hospital, two of whom do not need clinical care but are on the designated Covid ward as part of a care home’s in-patient care provision.

New symptoms have been identified as indicators of Covid-19.

For more than a year, people have been asked to report fevers, fatigue, sinus pain, loss of smell and taste, sore throats and persistent coughs to the clinical helpline.

Now, the symptoms list has been updated to include rashes, conjunctivitis and discolouration of fingers or toes as well.

Anyone displaying any symptoms, however mild, is asked to stay at home and contact the helpline on 756938 or 756969.

If a Covid test is advised, they must self-isolate until a negative result is received and the symptoms are gone.

This weekend it became mandatory to wear a face covering in specific indoor public spaces and on public transport, enforceable with a maximum £100 fine.

However, there are exemptions for people in certain circumstances so police urged islanders not to take enforcement into their own hands.

Chief Inspector J-P Le Breton urged anyone exempt from wearing a face covering to print off and carry the exemption card when going out, or wear a sunflower lanyard.

‘The Bailiwick community has been, and continues to be, compliant and engaging with the current lockdown restrictions and guidance, and therefore we see that this legislation will largely police itself,’ he said.

However, to those who choose to ignore or disregard the rules, he had a simple message.

‘Guernsey and Alderney Police will robustly respond and enforce these regulations. This may result in an on-the-spot fine in terms of a fixed penalty notice or the police officer has the discretion to report the individual for a future court prosecution.’
