The locally-produced film charts the story of local photographer Karl Taylor and his dive team’s four-year mission to discover the never-before-seen wreck of the two vessels, which both sank after a battle south-west of the island in February 1917. It aired on the BBC last summer.

It has been shortlisted for the Donald Gosling Award for best audio-visual production.

The award recognises UK directors and producers who demonstrate originality, fresh insights, authenticity and imagination.

‘I was surprised and thrilled to be nominated for this award,’ said Mr Taylor.

‘To be considered amongst so many other wonderful and notable productions is testament to the work my team and I, and all those involved, put into The Hunt for Lady Olive and the German Submarine.’

The Maritime Media Awards recognises the UK’s best journalists, authors, filmmakers, digital creators and others whose work in the media has created a greater public understanding of maritime issues, and of the UK’s dependence upon the sea.

The documentary is available on BBC iPlayer, Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.
