Residents and staff of GreenAcres care home have been taking part in the Jerusalema dance to show to family and friends who cannot visit that they are well.

The idea came from one of the carers who saw the Jerusalema dance going viral on social media.

She took the idea to director and care manager Moira Boyd, filmed all of the residents and most of the staff taking part and married the clips together into a four-minute video which was shared on the GreenAcres Facebook page.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, a song called Jerusalema, produced by a South African DJ called Master KG, has been trending and really took off on the video platform TikTok.

For some, Jerusalema is a symbol of unity in fractured communities.

Mrs Boyd said: ‘We’ve got 47 residents here and 68 staff members, every single one of them who wanted to take part can be seen in that video.’

Because of lockdown, the care home’s doors are closed to family and friends.

‘We put the video on our Facebook page to show loved ones that the residents are being taken care of, are keeping active and are having fun,’ she said.
