WATCH: 25 years since local actress appeared in The Bill
A GUERNSEY woman who appeared in an episode of ITV’s The Bill 25 years ago tonight said it holds a significant memory.
Catherine Hoskins, now Webster, played Carly Adams, a young bride whose grandfather was arrested by officers from Sun Hill during her wedding reception.
She said the whole thing was a great experience but one thing in particular stuck in her mind.
‘It was the time when the England rugby captain Will Carling was being linked with Diana, Princess of Wales,’ she said.
Filming was at a posh hotel in the West London where the England rugby team were attending a reception and the paparazzi were gathering outside.
‘I was being put into my bridal costume in a nearby room and when I came out to go down the corridor for shooting a voice behind me shouted out “Don’t do it,” said Mrs Webster.
‘When I looked around Will Carling was standing there.’
Mrs Webster’s part involved her saying a few words and throwing her bouquet at a camera towards the end of the episode [22 minutes and 22 seconds in].
It was the 45th of 156 episodes in the 12th series and entitled Dancers. While she did a bit of TV work afterwards, the majority of her career was in theatre.
After a year understudying a principal’s role in the musical Grease, in London’s West End, at about the same time she landed a one year contract playing the role of Patty Simcox in the production.
During her career she performed in stage shows including Singin’ in the Rain, Happy Days, Oliver and Calamity Jane. She worked with people including Shane Ritchie, Samantha Janus, Tommy Steele, Henry Winkler and Bonnie Langford.
TV credits include TFI Friday, The Clothes Show and Blue Peter.
In 2003 Mrs Webster and husband Brian returned to Guernsey. They set up The Guernsey Academy of Theatrical Education, based in The Western Community Centre.
