Graham Ogier, 83, a swimming pool specialist, came up with the sturdy design and secured materials at a discounted price from R H Gaudion & Sons.
Key attractions of the design are three wheels on the barrow, with no risk of puncture.
Mr Ogier said it got a very good reaction when he dropped it off at Grow.
‘They were all delighted with it, the two youngsters that came out, their eyes lit up and they had big smiles and they couldn’t get their hands on it quick enough,’ he said.
‘It was a bit of fun to design and it’s nice to know that it’s gone to a good home.
‘You don’t have to lift the heavy wheelbarrow and push it, you just wheel it along, and it makes life a lot easier.’
The charity, which is temporarily operating from Avondale Vinery near Oatlands, provides training and a sheltered work environment in horticulture.
There is a lot on the to-do list for the Grow team, even out of season, and the wheelbarrow will be put to good use.
