Thrills and chills aplenty at the bunker of horrors

The Mirus Battery near La Houguette Primary School was the perfect location for Saturday’s bunker of horrors at the weekend.

The 700 tickets for the scary event at a German fortification were all sold out.

Underground there were around 20 rooms of terror all based on different horror films including The Shining, Nightmare on Elm Street, Frankenstein’s Monster, The Exorcist, Chainsaw Massacre, Candyman and Dolls.

More than 30 ‘scarers’ had volunteered to petrify the ticket holders.

Outside around the gun pit was the ‘zombie zone’ with characters from Day of the Dead.

‘We’re the newly dead, we’re here to eat your brains’, said one.

Out of character, they added: 'I’ve had my throat slit and we’ve got lots of scabs. We had some make-up artists come in and they’ve done latex with tissue and obviously face paints, and the blood moves. We’ve enjoyed being made up all afternoon and ruining some clothes.’

A demon nun was also skulking in the shadows, although she had her cover blown when a pupil from La Houguette Primary School recognised her as his teacher.

‘I was in the conjuring films and also I had my own film, The Nun, I watched it with my son and we shrieked a lot so when I was asked to dress up I said yes for sure,' she said.

‘I’m lurking around my grave stones which I painted myself, they’re made of polystyrene insulation.’

Kim Carre was the brainchild of this first ever bunker of horrors.

Lots of the props and costumes were found in charity shops.

‘I’ve had this idea in my head for a long time, but work commitments and children meant that I never got round to it. I got all my friends and family on board, they all wanted to do it, it’s taken a good year in the making.

‘I went to Julie Rowson’s house for a Halloween party, she’s an American lady and her house was decorated so brilliantly that I got her involved with this, and she was really pleased to be part of it. We’re raising lots of money for La Houguette School PTA and the Guernsey Cheshire Home.

‘It’s really terrifying, the lighting that the boys have done is incredible, the blue and red lighting really adds to it.

‘Everyone has really jumped on board with this, they’ve all been to my house to get their makeup done, we’ve been at it all afternoon with makeup.

‘The highlight for me is people’s reaction when they come out, everyone has been terrified but they’re having great fun with it.’

Special thanks went to Gillian Lenfestey for the use of the bunker, and usual site user Battletec.
