Two Guernseymen honoured in New Year's list

THE efforts of two Guernsey men in helping communities overseas have been recognised in the Queen’s New Year Honours.

Allister Carey, who founded the Eleanor Foundation, is made an MBE for his services to sustainable development in Africa, while Steve Mauger receives a British Empire Medal for his services to Fairtrade in Guernsey.

Acting Lt-Governor Richard McMahon said he was delighted that these selfless islanders had received national recognition for their work.

‘At a time when the public health situation has led us to focus on our own challenges here in Guernsey, their remarkable achievements are a reminder to us all of the many people around the world who are much less fortunate than we are,’ he said.
