Overnight and evening sailings to UK for Condor this summer

FAMILIES planning ferry journeys to the UK this summer will need to plan for overnight sailings or late-night arrivals in the UK under the latest Condor timetable.

But for UK travellers there will be the chance to make day trips to the Bailiwick.

The Clipper is running regularly overnight services to Portsmouth during the summer school holidays, with sailings mostly arriving at about 6.15am.

The Liberation is running fast services, departing in the evening. This means that during the summer holidays the earliest the service arrives into Poole is just after 10pm – and some sailings arrive just before 1am.

A Condor Ferries spokesman said it recognised that different sailings will suit some more than others.

‘We equally receive feedback from members of the public that we often sail too early from the islands, before people are ready to travel,’ he said.

‘The evening departures are therefore suitable for islanders who do not need to take time off from work and for visitors who can maximise the last day of their holiday. This is something we have had in previous timetables and was a feature of last year’s schedule too.’

He added that the high-speed services to the UK were direct, which meant they were not affected by Jersey’s harbour being tidal.

‘We are hopeful that giving a range of options will provide suitability for all travellers,’ the spokesman said.

‘The schedule offers other benefits for Guernsey, including a twice-weekly service to Cherbourg which provides a new link to France and increases the potential for inbound visitors. From the UK, 60 day trips will run from Poole over the summer and are designed to support Guernsey’s hospitality and tourism sector.’
