THE design for next year’s Puffin Parade statues is being finalised on the other side of the world.

Next summer 62 statues will be placed around the island as part of a fundraiser for Autism Guernsey and the GSPCA.

Autism Guernsey fundraising manager Mandy Rowlinson said they were being made in the Philippines and the design had taken a bit of time to get right.

‘I have had photos of puffins from every angle,’ she said.

‘It’s about finished now.

‘We just need to decide where to put the brackets on the base.’

The puffins will be about 4ft tall and stand on a plinth.

While only a prototype has been produced so far, it is hoped they will all be made within a few weeks.

They will then need to be shipped to Guernsey.

It is hoped they will arrive before September.

They will then go out to artists, who will have until March 2023 to decorate them.

They will then go on display in late March or early April – the same time as the puffins return to the islands.

The statues will then be auctioned in September.

So far about half of the puffins have sponsors and artists, but about 30 more still need to be found.
