St Saviour’s Revel pulls in large crowd

THE kids were all right at this year’s St Saviour’s Revel as a large crowd of them took on tug of war champions Praxis/Ravenscroft and won.

The event was the climax of an afternoon of singing, dancing and traditional fun attractions for families in the parish.

Organised by members of the parish’s Anglican Church Council group and helped by a sunny afternoon, the revel drew hundreds to the field behind the rectory.

Along with books to browse and classic cars to admire there was a plant store, tombola and a raffle with some impressive prizes.

A tented stall was selling toys while youngsters – and adults – could enjoy splat the rat and the coconut shy.

There was also a chance to literally try a hand at milking a mock-cow, something that Angharad Wakelin, 9, took to like the proverbial duck to water even though she had never done it before.

‘My dad used to do it,’ she said, so perhaps it was in the genes.

Organising committee member Roger Arundale said the aim was to create a village atmosphere, so things like bouncy castles were ruled out because of the noise.

Even so, he said, the event had got ‘a little more sophisticated over the years.’
