Organisers are hoping for a festival bigger and better than last year, and are inviting people to prepare their carnival-themed fancy dress and come along to the opening parade on Saturday.

‘The grand opening parade on Saturday will be a mega highlight for the festival,’ said organiser Dominique Ogier.

‘We’ll have a huge procession with bands and music, musicians that will be performing throughout the festival, character actors and we encourage everyone to come in fancy dress.’

The parade will launch the festival at 10am on Saturday, following a route from the Sunken Gardens to the market, which will be followed by a performance from the Big Band Collective at 10.30am.

Each Saturday of the festival will have a different fancy dress theme, with prizes available from Creasey’s Toy Shop.

The theme for Saturday is carnival and circus, Saturday 30 July is pirates and magic, and Saturday 6 August is 'superheroes and princesses' day.

‘Organising the festival is a mammoth task, and we’re trying to build on it every year to keep it fresh and new,’ said Miss Ogier.

‘This year we’ve got a bunch of new gazebos and umbrellas to ensure our performers stay safe and cool in this hot weather.’

The main festival will run until Saturday 6 August.

‘We are so looking forward to bringing another two weeks of entertainment to St Peter Port this summer,’ said festival founder Claire Dawson.

‘Our inaugural event last year was a huge success, and we have received some lovely feedback from the public. We are so very lucky to have such an enormous amount of talent in our tiny island and a beautiful town, both of which need our support.’

Some retailers in St Peter Port will offer discounts linked to the festival to encourage people to shop locally.
