Pride of Guernsey: Jennifer Thomas
Jennifer Thomas has been nominated for the Sustainability Hero of the Year award, sponsored by Aon.
The nominator, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that she uses her art to promote environmental activism.
‘Passionate and inspiring, Jennifer is creative in her approach to sustainability,’ they said.
‘She is proof that with small actions, we can make a difference to the environment.
‘On her Instagram page, @rubbishart_ , she promotes sustainable swaps to reduce your impact on the planet and reviews plastic-free alternatives including soaps and shampoos, wraps and bags, and menstrual products.
‘On her page, she shows how she picks up any plastic she finds on local beaches and turns it into art.
‘This has included turning washed-up pieces of rope into thread to embroider old clothes with, giving them a new lease of life.
‘Her enthusiasm is contagious and I think it’s fair to say she has made many people more conscious of what they can be doing to be more sustainable.’
