The walkers set off from Vazon at 9am for the Guernsey’ Alzheimer’s Association fundraiser and by 9.30am many were passing through Grandes Rocques.

Couple Des and Claire-Louise Gorman were doing the walk for the second time.

‘We are walk-running,’ said Mr Gorman.

‘It’s another challenge. It’s a lovely day and we are on track to do it in two to two-and-a-half hours.’

Friends Gemma Watson and Amanda Dunnell took on the walking challenge with Labrador Keith.

‘I did it last year and I ran it,’ said Mrs Watson.

‘This year we are walking and it is a really good walk for Keith. This is a lovely route and it is for a good cause.’

Sue Denning was doing the walk with her 25-year-old daughter Sammie.

This was the third time she had done the walk.

‘It’s just a really good cause.’

Guernsey’ Alzheimer’s Association manager Julie Thompson said the event had been a great success, with the first walker finishing the eight-mile challenge at L’Ancresse in 54 minutes, and the last walkers crossing the line just before 1pm.

‘We think there have been about 300 walkers,’ she said.

‘It’s been a great walk, which has included families, which is fantastic.’

The money raised will be used to fund the charity’s projects and respite hours provided by the charity’s experienced sitters.

Mrs Thompson said she was very grateful to Aztec Group for its support of the event.
