Practice development lead for acute services Helena Avery said the awards were a way of thanking the unregistered workforce, members of which work across a wide range of disciplines in health services.
The awards covered trained, but not qualified, personnel, including midwifery support staff, health care assistants, mental health support workers and staff of the Community Drug and Alcohol Team.
‘This is a day dedicated to them,’ said Mrs Avery.
This was only the third time the awards had been presented, with last year’s ceremony being cancelled due to the pandemic.
A total of 18 awards were presented by the associate directors of the departments and introduced by medical director Dr Peter Rabey and included donated prizes from local companies and businesses.
Mrs Avery said while some staff saw it as a way of gaining experience ahead for further training others were happy to stay on.
‘Lots of staff have chosen to stay in that role,’ she said.
Nominations for the awards were put forward by the departments’ associate directors.
Among those who received awards was Bev Shepherd, of acute services, described by her associate director Elaine Burgess as having a wealth of experience after working for Health & Social Care for many years.
‘Her standard of care is outstanding and she is an excellent role model,’ said the citation.
Mandy Downie was described as a ‘vital cog in the CDAT wheel’ in her nomination. ‘[She] doesn’t realise how important a part she plays,’ said mental health services associate director Fiona Robertson.
Laeticia Dias received an award for her work in community services. ‘Laeticia’s role is varying and complex where she works across multiple professions,’ said associate director Karen Leach.
‘Laeticia is brilliant at seeing the needs of the patients and the team as a whole and is compassionate to both our service users and staff.’
