Family fun at KGV’s third summer fayre
SOMETHING was on offer for everyone as the KGV hosted its third annual summer fayre on Sunday.
The venue played host to a variety of family-friendly activities, including karting, bouncy castles and fairground rides.
Visitors to the event were able to sample a range of food and drink from various stalls dotted around the site, while there was live music throughout the afternoon from the balcony of the sports bar.
Bar manager and organiser Sarah De Carteret hoped the event would showcase the KGV to a wider audience.
‘We want to promote the fact that anyone can come here and use the facilities, it’s not just for members.
‘It’s an inexpensive day out for families. Although we’ve lost a few stalls to the wind, I’m expecting people to come and go all afternoon.’
The first hour of the fayre was a quiet hour for those with sensory needs. before live music from A Touch of Country and Bex Archer accompanied the afternoon’s activities.
‘Bex often sings in the sports bar, and after one of her gigs we had a conversation about her performing today,’ Mrs De Carteret said.
‘It’s the first time we’ve had live music and I think it’s worked out really well.’
Chocolate Dreams was one of the food stalls operating at the event, and owner Sarah De Bourgonniere said that she and daughters Kayleigh and Kelsey had had a busy summer.
‘We did both the West Show and the North Show, as well as the Seafront Sunday events.
‘As soon as a trailer became available for this we decided to come and do it. It’s our fourth time here, including the Christmas fayres.’
She added the stall’s most popular purchase was its chocolate strawberries.
‘We sold 400 punnets during the West and North Shows. I think people buy them because they convince themselves that they’re being healthy.’
Stacey Smiler was attending the event with her husband Jordan and their son Keanu, 9.
‘We heard about it through the “Guernsey With Kids” website, we decided to come as we thought it would be quieter than the Vale Earth Fair,’ she said. ‘Keanu loves the bouncy castles and the open space, it’s nice to do something outdoors.’
Vicky Overton had come to the fayre with sons Theo, 3, and Adam, 7, as well as husband Steve.
She said her sons had enjoyed the karting and bouncy castles.
‘It’s nice to have come down during quiet hour, the boys have really enjoyed their waffles and strawberries too,’ she said.
