Guernsey Mind Fun Run returns
RUNNERS setting out to raise money and awareness for Guernsey Mind on its annual fun run this weekend will have two distances to choose from.
Sunday’s event sees a 5km run added to the traditional 10km to embrace the spirit of Mind’s #NotPerfect mental health campaign.
‘It’s open to both runners, walkers, joggers – anyone and everyone. We added the 5k option to entice more people in as a 10k can be a bit heavy,’ said Mind’s marketing, events and fundraising lead Maddy Diligent.
Both runs start from KGV with the 10k at 9am and the 5k 15 minutes later.
The 10k run takes runners northbound up to Rue Sauvage down to Rousse and then along the West Coast to Cobo before heading inland back to KGV.
The 5k initially follows the same path but takes a left turn down Route Charruee along to Route de Carteret until it joins the 10k route back to KGV.
Last year more than 300 runners raised £7,000, with the money going towards Mind’s one-to-one therapy sessions, as well as looking into new services such as supported self-care.
‘It’s a well known event in the local calendar, we normally get around 300 but our record was after Covid when we had 500 participants,’ said Ms Diligent.
The event, sponsored by Investec, aims to raise awareness on the positive connection between physical and mental health, while also raising essential funds.
‘This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and create a supportive atmosphere for everyone participating, whether they are seasoned runners or first-time entrants,’ said Investec sponsorship co-ordinator Anna Malcolm.
‘With the new additions like the (almost) 5k and the safari theme, this year’s Fun Run holds even greater excitement.’
