Three parishes face douzaine seats contests
Contested douzaine elections are expected to take place in St Peter Port, St Sampson’s and Vale, as the three parishes have ended up with more candidates than seats.
But Torteval has fallen short on candidates, with just two people put forward for four douzaine seats.
The candidates for parish elections have been published in today’s La Gazette Officielle. The parish meetings are on Wednesday 1 November.
St Peter Port has the biggest douzaine, with 20 members. Eight of the seats werevacant, five of full four-year terms and three with partial terms.
Nine people have put their names forward.
Vale, which has the second largest douzaine at 16, has four seats available, with six people competing for them.
St Sampson’s needs four douzeniers, with five people having put their names forward.
All the other parishes have enough candidates to fill their seats, apart from Torteval.
There were also some gaps on various committees.
There were no candidates put forward for the two vacant St Sampson’s parochial cemetery committee vacancies, nor one on the St Andrew’s parochial cemetery committee. Nominations will be invited from the floor.
There are enough candidates for constables to fill the available seats. Among the candidates is existing St Peter Port constable Zoe Lihou, who has been proposed by her fellow constable Jenny Tasker, and is uncontested for the role.
