The vast majority of the blockages were due to fallen trees or tree branches.

Traffic & Highway Services roads & traffic management manager Phil Ogier confirmed that most roads had now been cleared by landowners and tree surgeons.

Tree removal works using a mobile crane are set to be undertaken today on Route des Talbots, St Andrew’s.

Mr Ogier said THS staff had been working hard over the weekend and yesterday to establish the latest situation on the roads, with the States Trafficworx webpage being updated as new information was received.

‘We would welcome if landowners or their contractors can notify us at traffic@gov.gg regarding any remaining issues involving the public highway and once works have been completed.

‘This will help us to keep the public informed of the latest situation via Trafficworx.’

Where a tree or part of a tree had fallen onto, or was obstructing, a road or footpath, Mr Ogier said that it was the landowner’s responsibility to arrange for it to be removed so that roads could be fully opened, including to emergency responders.

He added that many tree surgeons had been working with THS to ensure roads and footpaths were cleared quickly, and thanked them for their efforts.

‘If you contact a tree surgeon, please be patient with them as they are naturally very busy.’

Mr Ogier also said that flooding had affected multiple roads over the past few days, with checks and cleansing of highway drainage having taken place before the storm at places known to be more regularly affected by flooding.

‘As the public will likely have observed, there are roads and footpaths still with significant debris in place, so please continue to use the highway with care and assist us by clearing plant debris from properties and driveways so it doesn’t end up in the road.’

He added that cleaning of roads and road drainage had continued since.
