Work at Jersey harbour to impact Condor sailings
Condor sailings are set to be affected by infrastructure work on a ro-ro ramp at Jersey’s harbour in St Helier.
The Elizabeth Harbour’s west berth is being taken out of service for five weeks from today for a planned fender replacement project to take place, described as part of the harbour’s critical infrastructure.
Jersey Ports communications manager Cathy Keir said the roll-on roll-off ramp used to drive vehicles on and off ferries remained fully operational.
‘We need to close the berth due to the nature of the work,’ she said.
‘This means one ramp, rather than two, will be available for ferries docking during that time. However, the west berth would be made available if there were an unexpected issue with the east berth. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this planned work.’
She added that the harbour had been in regular communication with ferry companies and other stakeholders since autumn last year to minimise disruption to services.
The works will affect 14 Condor sailings between Friday 9 and Wednesday 28 February and in most circumstances involve only short delays to the original sailing times.
A Condor Ferries’ spokesman said that regrettably it had no option other than to review vessel movements over the three week period.
‘All passengers and freight clients affected are being notified of any changes to their sailings by our contact centre and port teams,’ he said.
‘We apologise for any inconvenience this will cause which is through circumstances out of our control.’
Bad weather has disrupted the ferry schedule over the last few days. The Commodore Clipper ran several hours late last night due the weather. However, services are expected to run today.
