It has also exposed the foundations of a wall at the top of the cliffs. Barriers and a sign warning people of the landslide have been put up on La Corniche road, which runs parallel to the cliffs.

Fisherman George Jennings said he spotted the landslide from the sea a few days ago while out on his boat, adding that he thought it had happened quite recently.

Philip Hugo, States head of contracts and assurance, said his team had become aware of the landslide late last year. It has redirected heavy vehicle movements at Fort George as a precaution. ‘We are arranging an inspection of that section of cliff face to determine the next steps,’ he said.
