The gardens around Rodley Park and in the community area of the estate were judged on Friday morning by Rae Beckwith and Jax Robins.
‘The big thing for us is people wanting to make a difference where they live and here you can really see that,’ he said.
‘You can see people care about it.’
Mr Beckwith said that he liked how it was a community project at Rodley Park.
‘You can see it has been done through friendship and the camaraderie down here is great,’ he said.
‘People can ask their neighbours or help with planting, you can feel the sense of community.’
Both judges said that the gardens were done to a high standard, with Mr Beckwith adding that they are exactly what the RHS look for in gardens – bright and colourful.
‘It still looks attractive with the dull weather,’ said Ms Robins.
Katina Jones is one of the residents of Rodley Park who helped with the gardens.
‘We started early,’ she said.
‘We work all year round on the gardens. There is a lot to do. We are a really good team and I feel it is important that we share with others. We drag other people in to help with the planting and there is always someone there to help plant or buy the plants.’
The Rodley Park residents have held events in the community area of the estate to help raise funds for the gardens.
‘We had an event on Liberation day to raise money and I think we will be doing another on the day the King comes to visit,’ said Mrs Jones.
