Queens Road Medical Practice opens at new site on Monday
QUEENS Road Medical Practice’s new surgery site will be opening its doors on Monday.
The former States Education Offices in the Grange is double the size of the surgery’s previous Queen's Road site.
The building was sold by the States to the Queens Road Medical Practice for £1.56m. in 2022, and since then extensive work has been carried out on the protected building.
While the building is over 120 years old, and has been a school and offices, it now has a new lease of life with 18 consultation rooms, three waiting rooms, two reception areas and a minor operations room.
‘From a patient point of view, the consultation rooms are all pretty typical in design, they’re just different shapes because it’s an old building, and we’ve utilised the space to make as many consultation rooms as we can, but specification-wise, they’re all the same,’ said practice manager Rob Jordan.
‘We did have a minor operations room at the other site but it was much smaller and adapted from another room, this is has been designed and purpose-built as a minor operations room.’
A hidden gem for the surgery's admin staff is the wooden architecture and stained glass windows which feature in their office.
Accessibility has been a focal point for developers, and every level is accessible to all.
‘One side of the building is a bit lower, so the lift stops at each level and also some half-levels where we’ve put in extra doorways so everywhere is accessible,’ said Mr Jordan.
‘Once the patient has checked in, they will either go to the green waiting room on the ground floor or will be sent upstairs to the blue or yellow waiting rooms.
‘The main reception desk will be for checking patients in, but after the appointments, patients will go to a secondary reception area for payment or booking follow-up appointments.’
The practice closed its old office on Thursday, and is continuing its 200m move over the weekend.
While the two buildings are just up the road from one another, the surgery is using removal vehicles to keep everything safe during the move.
