The company has cited delays to its readiness for operations, which it said had impacted its ability to complete its obligations required by the authorities.
‘We have no choice but to delay the commencement of our services until 5 June,’ the company said.
‘We deeply regret to find ourselves in this situation and for the inconvenience this may cause.
‘We greatly value your custom and support.’
The daily service to Jersey is set to provide two rotations on weekdays and three rotations on a weekend.
The seven-strong crew has been getting the vessel San Pawl ready to start sailing since Saturday 17 May when it first arrived in the island from Malta.
Since its arrival, the crew has been installing new equipment and doing compliance checks, while familiarising themselves with the vessel, training for emergency situations and undergoing sea trials.
The ferry was in Jersey yesterday.
Islands Unlimited blamed weather earlier in the week for the delays and said it had only been able to trial the ship in Jersey yesterday. It added that refunds will be processed automatically.
Last night Jersey-based Water Taxi CI stepped in to salvage some inter-island bookings for the weekend.
Yesterday was a busy day at St Peter Port harbour as predicted, with record passenger numbers on the Voyager from St Malo and the cruise liner World Traveller bringing another 170 passengers ashore.
Acting harbour master James Way said: ‘The Voyager sailing was Brittany Ferries’ busiest continental sailing to date, with around 750 car and foot passengers arriving from St Malo.
‘We were able to turn around the ship in just over an hour, which was a fantastic team effort from all involved.’
It had plans to welcome the San Pawl into St Peter Port with a water cannon salute, as is traditional for new services at the airport, from the Sarnia Workboat.
