Aurigny reducing London City service for six weeks
Aurigny is reducing its London City service by more than two-thirds for the next six weeks.
The airline had been operating regular services on the route since early last year in a bid to increase capacity for London following the sale of its larger-capacity Embraer jet.
Until recently that meant there were flights six days a week, and over the next four days there are seven rotations scheduled.
But from Tuesday the service has been vastly cut back, with just two rotations on Fridays and Sundays.
The cut-back schedule appears to continue until Monday 17 February, when the service is due to return to 13 rotations a week.
An Aurigny spokesman said the schedule always was tailored to seasonal demand, as was the standard industry practice.
‘Compared to 2024, capacity between Guernsey and London for the period 6 January – 16 February has increased by 6% and flight frequency by 15%,’ he said.
‘During this period, we are pleased to offer a convenient schedule for weekend breaks to the heart of the city. Frequency will increase as we head towards the busier summer period.’
More than 40,000 passengers have used the London City service since it was relaunched in March – accounting for about 6% of all passengers passing through Guernsey’s airport.
This made it the island’s fifth-busiest route – behind London Gatwick, Jersey, Southampton and Manchester.
Aurigny has been coping with plane issues lately. G-OATR has now been in France for maintenance since November, leaving the airline with only four ATRs to operate its schedule.
