Dog walker flown to Southampton after lorry collision

A dog walker was left with critical injuries after a collision involving a lorry, which left his dog dead.

Route Des Laurens in Torteval was closed for several hours yesterday morning following a serious road traffic incident involving a lorry and a pedestrian. (33919401)

The incident occurred in Torteval just before 7.30am, on Route Des Laurens – the main road between the Mallard Centre and Torteval Church.

At the time there was rain in the area and strong winds.

The pedestrian suffered serious injuries, and was immediately transferred to hospital by ambulance. Later in the day he was flown to Southampton.

The road was shut for several hours while specialist officers conducted the initial stages of a collision investigation. It finally opened just before noon.

Police and St John Ambulance were also called to a separate incident involving a car and a pedestrian at almost exactly the same time at the junction of Les Baissieres and Rue du Friquet in Castel.

One man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, understood to be a broken ankle, and the road reopened before 8am.

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision on Route Des Laurens or who has any information regarding what happened.
