This is the second time the School has got involved in the initiative.

Hosted at the O2 Arena in London, Young Voices involves some 8,000 children across the UK.

There will 21 pupils from year 5 and year 6, aged between 9 and 11 years old, going this year.

‘We went for the first time last year and it went down so well,’ said Form II Melrose teacher Thomas Lewis.

Mr Lewis has been involved in Young Voices since working in a UK school. He said that the amazing memory of having been involved had stuck with him.

‘The moment I arrived I began sowing seeds for trying to get it organised,’ he said.

Young Voices is about promoting singing for young children as thousands of children come together to enjoy making music.

The Melrose group will go to England for one night and will return the following day.

‘We’ve got a whole range of songs,’ said Mr Lewis.

Including a medley of songs from the musical Hairspray, a pop medley, a song from the Disney movie Zootopia, Little Blue, a song that includes sign language and a song from India.

‘I’m buzzing for it really, I’ve been looking forward to this one since last year’s finished and we walked out of the arena,’ said Mr Lewis.

The songs arrived last June, and the students have been rehearsing since last September.

‘Every concert is recorded and every participant, member of the audience and parent can purchase a copy,’ said Mr Lewis.

All the students involved have been buzzing with excitement about being part of a wider community and singing some fantastic songs, he said.
