Most of the car parks on the island’s northern coast are riddled with potholes at present, some of them taking on concerning proportions.
At Bordeaux there were around 50 potholes across the car park, and they get deeper and bigger the closer you get to Woodies kiosk.
The worst of them were a couple of metres wide and between 2.5 and 4cms deep.
Motorists in the car park at Grande Havre, near Vale Church, would have fared even worse. An estimate of 80 potholes could be seen, with many of a similar size to Bordeaux. But the biggest car park, and the worst problems, were found at Pembroke Bay car park, near the Beach House. We counted way more than 100 potholes across the area, small and shallow and large and deep. About half of them were 4cms deep and one we found was 6cms.
The States said it was aware of the problem but limited over what it could do until the weather takes a turn for the better.
‘Traffic and Highway Services is responsible for maintaining most coastal car parks around the island,’ said Phil Ogier, manager for roads and traffic management.
‘In the past couple of weeks our staff have been out inspecting the locations we are responsible for following the deterioration caused by the wet winter weather.
‘And weather permitting, remedial works will be carried out by our contractor in the coming weeks starting with the areas most in need of attention.’
