The Tarifa Jet has been in Portland for three weeks, awaiting sign off from the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency for its passenger certificate.

It has led to some cancellations and changes on the Jersey-Saint Malo route since DFDS took over the island’s ferry services from Condor last week.

The firm gave an update yesterday afternoon.

‘DFDS is continuing to work on addressing the technical issues arising from last week’s assessment and to finalise preparations for the vessel to enter service, which is now scheduled for next week,’ they stated.

‘With the Easter holidays starting, our Stena Vinga vessel will operate on the Jersey-Saint Malo route from Thursday to Monday, with up to two rotations daily to accommodate all passengers. Our schedules on this route will therefore change, and all customers with existing bookings will be contacted with details of these changes or alternative options.’

The change means that the Vinga will not be available to do its normal Portsmouth service, and the company is bringing in a replacement vessel to cover the service. It has not confirmed which vessel will take on the route.

Meanwhile Condor is set to operate its first inter-island service today since the start of the new contract.

The Condor Voyager will sail to Jersey at lunchtime. The company is offering weekly services between the islands.

Guernsey’s spring school term does not finish until Friday 11 April.
