Michael Bertram left his position as the island’s chief civil servant last week with ‘immediate effect’ and sources on the island implied he had been forced out.
However Conseiller Steve Lord said this was not the case.
‘Whoever told you he was pushed is either misinformed or misinforming,’ he said.
‘He did resign. I helped him with his resignation letter on the phone while he wrote it. I spoke to him just now and confirmed it with him. He’s as shocked to see this claim he was pushed as I am.’
Conseiller Lord said he had worked with Mr Bertram since joining Chief Pleas this year and found his counsel invaluable, particularly on the medical committee and ICT strategy development.
‘At all times I found Michael professional, hard-working and an active listener,’ he said.
‘I understand that some may not have shared that experience of him, but that was mine. I can’t speak for the medical committee as a whole but I found him an absolute credit, and an integral part of our interactions with the medical centre. We simply would not be where we are without him.’
Mr Bertram arrived in Sark from a similar position in Tristan da Cunha – a remote group of volcanic islands in the middle of the South Atlantic Ocean.
He was the third CEO Sark has had in the last three years.
