The regatta has brought more than 25,000 French visitors to the island over the 42 years that it has been running. More than 65 yachts signed up for this year’s regatta, setting off from Morlaix at about 7pm on Wednesday.

Captain Pierrick Le Beayec and his team crossed the line in Guernsey more than 12 hours later yesterday morning.

‘It was a west-southwest wind around 10-15 knots and it was very nice, clear sky at the beginning and a little bit of rain,’ he said.

‘It was very cool to go out with the fleet.

‘We had some lovely stars at night and then around halfway along it became a little more difficult and wet.’

It was the crew’s first time sailing together, and they managed to arrive in Guernsey safely – and all still talking to each other.

They will be spending a couple of days in the island and then racing to back to Perros-Guirec on Saturday before finishing in Roscoff on Sunday.

This evening the sailors will attend their annual reception at Castle Cornet where the results of the race were announced.

Coming in third place were Antoine Perrin, Jean-Marie Jezcquel and Loig Leon.

‘The trip was quite good, we finished third from all of our boats but it was very close, and we are happy with that,’ said Mr Perrin.

His boat was one of three identical vessels taking part in the race.

‘The race is 42 years old and the boat is 50 years old.’

The boats were moored in the Victoria Marina yesterday.
