The event, organised by veteran Pete Burtenshaw, aims to raise public awareness and build momentum ahead of the national day of appreciation for current and former members of the British armed forces.
‘The significance lies not in the scale of today’s event, but in what it stands for,’ said Mr Burtenshaw.
‘This is about showing support and gratitude for all those who serve or have served, and reminding the public that Armed Forces Day is just around the corner.’
Banners are also being installed at several locations across the island, including South Side in St Sampson’s, in Town, and inside the Airport Terminal building, all designed to act as visual reminders of the occasion.
Mr Burtenshaw added that the aim was to reach as many members of the public as possible in the run up to the weekend.
‘It’s important we do what we can to keep the contribution of our armed forces in people’s minds.
‘These banners and the flag will help spark that awareness.’
Armed Forces Day is a nationwide event held annually to honour the bravery, commitment and sacrifice of service personnel past and present, including veterans, reservists, and their families. Communities across the UK are invited to take part in commemorations, whether through parades, school activities, or more informal displays of appreciation.
