Three ways to take part in 30 Bays challenge

As well as the hardcore 30 Bays, the smaller Nine Bays family version has been rebranded and a new 15 Bays option has been introduced for those short on time or new to sea swimming.

The fun summer challenge is an important fundraiser for Les Bourgs Hospice, and this year participants are being encouraged to pledge £30 in donations or sponsorship.

Officially swimmers need to do at least 30 strokes in 30 bays over the course of July.

The challenge is designed to be super-flexible so swims can be ticked off however the participants want. There is no obligation to swim every day.

The event launches on Tuesday evening with a group swim at Vazon.

‘This event is very special to me as it was set up in memory of my mum and another close family member who were cared for at Les Bourgs Hospice,’ said Les Bourgs fundraiser and event founder Liz Stonebridge.

‘I know first-hand the incredible difference that the nursing team make to patients and their families and how important it is that we support them.

‘I swim regularly, so for me 30 Bays in 30 Days is not just about getting in the water but the time spent with family and friends and the unique memories that the challenge brings. Whether you already swim every day or an occasional dipper, I promise that each swim will be different depending on weather, state of tide, time of day or who you are swimming with.

‘Please sign up today and be part of something that really helps to make a difference.’

Full information and a registration link can be found for both events at www.30bays.org. It is £15 for adults, £5 for children or £35 for a family entry. The new 15 bays version is £10 for adults and £5 for children. There is also a team entry of five people taking part so the list of bays can be shared out and it is hoped that businesses will support this.

People can register at the group swim launch or any time during the month. The event is sponsored by Rocq Capital and maps for the swims have been illustrated by Caroline Cummins and Caroline Veron.
