Planning permission has been granted for a new kiosk and permanent parasol on the top floor of the structure.
Architects DLM said this would allow the the upper pavilion to operate more effectively throughout the year.
‘A converted shipping container has been selected for its efficiency and cost-effectiveness, helping to deliver the project swiftly and sustainably,’ a spokesman said.
‘It will be clad to match the existing pavilion, creating a seamless visual connection and the appearance of a natural extension to the main building.’
The scheme also includes new hard landscaping, designed to knit the new elements into the existing setting and surrounding landscape.
Vive la Vallette operations director Helen Bonner-Morgan said the new additions were an evolution of its current offer.
‘When we opened in 2022 we wanted to see what the demand was and how we could use the space,’ she said.
‘The upper level is such a gem with the amazing views we have and the kiosk and parasol will allow us to make much more of it, especially the outside space, both for the cafe and for events.’
‘We are hoping to be done and ready for the summer season. It’s really just a light touch and we want it to be here so the whole community can benefit from it when the sunshine comes.’
The cafe is open 365 days a year, currently from 7.30am to 4pm every day.
‘With the good weather we have finally had in the last few days we have been really busy especially on the terrace,’ she said.
‘We are really excited because this will create more outside space.’
