David Beattie, now 85, joined Citizens Advice Guernsey in 2007 at the age of 66 after a career in finance.
The charity said it was proud to recognise and celebrate his outstanding contribution as a generalist adviser.
Mr Beattie said it had been a privilege to volunteer for so many years.
‘I’ve worked in a lot of different places over my life, but I’ve never worked in a place where everybody is so lovely, friendly, helpful, and supportive,’ he said.
‘Everybody is here because they want to help other people. That makes it unique.
‘I’ve met incredible people, both clients and fellow volunteers, and I’ve learned so much over the years. What I will miss most is the sense of shared purpose and the teamwork that makes Citizens Advice so special. I leave with fond memories and full confidence in the amazing volunteers who continue this important work.’
Chief executive officer Ali Marquis said that Mr Beattie’s contribution to Citizens Advice Guernsey had been commendable, and he had touched countless lives in his time as a volunteer.
‘His commitment, knowledge, and integrity have made a meaningful difference to our clients, volunteers and staff,’ she said.
‘He embodies the values of Citizens Advice – always putting clients first, sharing his expertise generously, and helping shape the supportive volunteer culture we are so proud of. We are very grateful for nearly two decades of service and wish him the very best in his well deserved retirement.’
The charity is currently recruiting new volunteers who would like to make a difference in the community. Mr Beattie said the fact that he was not even the longest-serving member of the team showed how great a place Citizens Advice Guernsey was.
‘I’m so glad I decided I made that decision to volunteer here,’ he said.
‘The charity does such amazing work and the people you spend the day with are so wonderful. The charity is always in need of more people – and more money – so I’d recommend it to all.'
