The Guernsey midfielder played an integral role in the sweltering heat of Bratislava yesterday as England beat the Netherlands 2-1 thanks to two outstanding goals from Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott.
Victory was fully deserved in Slovakia as they were the better team throughout, with the Dutch goal coming out of nothing.
Despite dominating much of the first half, the Young Lions were unable to break the deadlock, although Scott went close at the end of a brilliant move just before the break when captain James McAtee set Omari Hutchinson free down the left and he played in Elliott whose cutback was perfect for the Bournemouth midfielder, but his shot was deflected over by a defender at full-stretch.
The Netherlands, who failed to have a shot in the first half, improved after the break and began asking questions, but just as England were being pushed back, they went ahead in the 62nd minute with Scott heavily involved as it was he who showed good physicality to win the ball on the halfway line and neatly lay it off to Elliott Anderson.
The Nottingham Forest player set Elliott clear, he advanced into the box and fired a fine right-footed finish in at the near post. However, the advantage was short-lived as sub Noah Ohio made the perfect impact from the bench, scoring with his first touch with a pinpoint finish having spotted goal-keeper James Beadle off his line.
But England were not going to be denied and some Elliott heroics sent them into the final for just the second time since 2009.
He picked the ball up 30 yards out, turned his marker, beat another man and advanced into the penalty area before whipping a low shot into the bottom corner.
‘A really tough game, but to win it, it’s incredible,’ Elliott told Channel 4.
‘It’s just one last push and hopefully we can be crowned champions again.’
Scott, who enjoyed Euro U19 success in 2022, played 84 minutes before being replaced by Hayden Hackney.
Lee Carsley’s side will meet Germany in Saturday’s final when they will hope to retain the crown they won two years ago.
