Detailed plans of the new major roads within the proposed housing area were submitted to planning at the end of June, with a deadline of Tuesday 22 July for objections.
The road would have three exit points on the site – a purpose-built junction on Route Militaire, that has remained unused for more than a decade, and exit through two roads joining the Saltpans to the south.
Parish constable Joe Abbotts said a lot of concerns had been raised about the plans.
‘We understand the houses have to go somewhere and they need to put road structure in place,’ he said.
‘The starting point on Route Militaire you can understand, but they are planning to come out on a blind corner on the Saltpans Road.’
The plans drawn up include pavements, cycle lanes, bus stops and associated drainage and utilities.
‘You have all that new 16m wide roadway, with cycle paths and pedestrian footways and then you come out onto the Saltpans which is narrow – where is everyone going to go?
He said he and some of his fellow douzeniers believed it would be better for this entrance onto the road to be moved further along the Saltpans Road, where visibility would be better.
‘It will be bad enough for residents to get access to their houses with all the extra traffic, but moving the road a little may make things a lot easier,’ he said.
The meeting will be held at the St Sampson’s Douzaine Room on Le Murier at 7pm tomorrow.
‘We’ve put a presentation together for parishioners to see if they agree and so we can get their views and formulate a response for traffic,’ Mr Abbots said.
There has been renewed vigour to develop the area since it was bought for the Guernsey Housing Association with States funds for £4.75m. in 2022.
It is proposed that it will change to a housing allocation site as part of the Island Development Plan review, which will be considered by the new States next year.
