Clean-up is nearly complete after last week’s jam-packed schedule culminated in the ever-popular torchlight procession through the cobbled streets of St Anne on Saturday evening.
Alderney Week team leader Vicky Chandler said the week, while very busy, had been ‘fantastic’.
‘There were a lot of events, we were constantly having to run from one to the other, but as a whole I think it was one of the best weeks we’ve done,’ she said.
‘Everything ran smoothly, people loved it, and just a huge thank you to all the volunteers who made it possible.’
Among the new attractions for this year was the transformation of a German bunker from the Occupation into a haunted hospital, which tied into the week’s theme of magic, mischief and enchantment.
Mrs Chandler said it had been a huge success, with visitors leaving 'petrified'.
‘We’ve had lots of requests asking if we will do it again, so it may have to come back next year.’
She said the colour party at Corporation Quarry had seen a big turnout, while the moving of the man-powered flight at Douglas Quay to an evening slot to coincide with high tide had been a popular decision.
Another event on the move had been the street market from Victoria Street to Braye Street, which Mrs Chandler said had worked well. Other than the day of the cavalcade, which had been a little windy and chilly, she said the whole week had seen some great weather, which added to the enjoyment of those attending the events.
‘I think the torchlight procession was one of our busiest, it summed up the week nicely.’
Clean-up on the Butes and elsewhere had begun in earnest on Sunday, with Mrs Chandler and her husband, fellow team leader Wayne, being joined by other team members and an army of volunteers.
Mrs Chandler said the team would allow themselves a couple of weeks off once the clean-up was fully completed before thinking about next year’s event.
‘It doesn’t ever stop really, but seeing how much people love it is what keeps us going and motivated every year.’
