The Association of Guernsey Charities is taking over the seafront of St Peter Port on Sunday 14 September from 10am-4pm.
It is set to be a bustling Sunday in Town, coinciding with the finish of the Guernsey Half Marathon and the Battle of Britain Parade.
‘In all the years I’ve been doing Seafront Sundays for the GSPCA, I haven’t ever done an event with so much variety,’ said GSPCA manager Steve Byrne, who is also a director of the Association of Guernsey Charities.
‘I’m ecstatic that the charities have this chance.
‘We want to work with everyone to make this the biggest and best yet,’ he said.
‘Seafront Sundays tend to see thousands of visitors, and this particular Sunday will probably see more. It’s the perfect opportunity to show off all the incredible work being done across our community by so many good causes, and for islanders to learn more about them. If it weren’t for our local charities, there’d be a real lack of things being done in the island and many of them don’t get the chance to promote themselves to this extent.
‘It’s going to be a day full of heart, celebration, and connection.’
Mr Byrne said more than 40 charities had already signed up to participate and he hoped to encourage more.
‘It’s not going to be your typical Seafront Sunday,’ he said.
Working with the marathon team, Mr Byrne said the AGC plan to incorporate the other events taking place that day.
The Flying Christine, the Guernsey Majorettes, Boys Brigade and all the dolphins from the Discovery Trail are just some of the local icons expected to make an appearance. Four-legged friends are invited to strut their ruff at the GSPCA’s favourite Fun Dog Show and GU10 will bring the lively, cheerful sound of sea shanties and folk songs.
Charities can book a pitch for free, and traders and hobbyists are also welcome to join in.
Anyone interested in sponsoring the event can contact Steve Byrne through the GSPCA website, where an application form for a pitch can also be found.
