Organised and sponsored once again by Ian Brown and his cycle shop, the enduring event, which sees participants ride their bike for an hour a day for 30 consecutive days, will roll throughout

May. It started on Saturday with a breakfast at The Kiln and the end of the challenge will coincide with the Rocque to Rock cycle ride.

‘Les Bourgs is very well known, and very well supported by islanders and this is a part of that,’ said Mr Brown.

‘We have a lot of repeat riders and also welcome new riders in.’

Over the past 18 years, the challenge has seen 642 riders, 41,670 individual rides, 587,250 miles cycled and £1,179,956 raised for the hospice.

Les Bourgs Hospice CEO Rob Jones is taking part in the challenge for the third time.

‘This event has been going for so long, and it’s an annual celebration, not just of doing something enjoyable with friends, but also raising money for the hospice,’ he said.

‘This is my third time doing it. I really enjoy cycling, although it’s much harder, so this marks me coming out and getting into cycling every year.’

Hazel and Rachel Seymour have been taking part in the challenge for five and six years respectively and said it was a great way to support the hospice.

‘What they do at Les Bourgs is amazing, and you have had family in there haven’t you, so it’s a great way to raise money for the charity,’ said Hazel, looking towards Rachel.
