Charity sector is urged to consider collaboration

COLLABORATION is the focus for this year’s charity sector conference hosted by the Association of Guernsey Charities.

The event, the association’s third annual conference, takes place on Saturday 18 October at Perrot Court, Elizabeth College. Its focus is on how charities can build on existing partnerships with each other, government, and the wider community to achieve even greater impact.

‘Our aim is to bring the sector together around shared issues and opportunities,’ said association chairman Wayne Bulpitt.

‘Feedback from our members shows the value of connecting and exploring ways to join forces. With over 600 charitable organisations locally, the sector is diverse in size, structure, and the causes it supports. Despite this diversity, there is a genuine desire to work more closely together, and we have seen an increase in successful collaborations in recent years. We want to continue providing a platform to support and strengthen these collaborative ways of working.

‘With resources under pressure and government moving toward a more joined-up approach, particularly through the new Bailiwick commissioning framework, we also want to support the sector’s capacity to be an effective partner in collaborative initiatives.’

The free one-day event offers keynotes, networking opportunities and a range of 12 workshops designed to inspire and equip attendees with practical skills and insights. Topics include employer-supported volunteering – building impactful partnerships; shaping policy – how charities can engage with States committees; and collaboration in practice. Sessions of wider interest, such as presentation skills and fundraising tips, will also be on the agenda.

This year’s keynote speaker is Paul Roberts, chief executive of Consortium LGBT+ – the largest network of LGBT+ groups and organisations in the UK. He has more than 25 years’ experience in the LGBT+ charitable sector, and is recognised for his collaborative leadership style.

‘Paul brings extensive experience in leading collaborative projects and has firsthand insight into both the benefits and challenges of working together,’ said Mr Bulpitt.

‘This promises to be a valuable day of learning, sharing, and networking.’

Also addressing the audience will be Deputy Bailiff Jessica Roland and Policy & Resources president Lindsay de Sausmarez, both of whom have actively supported the sector beyond their official roles.

Spaces are limited, and charities are encouraged to register early to secure their place. As well as gaining fresh perspectives and new skills, attendees will benefit from a unique opportunity to build connections across the sector.
