A NEW committee has been appointed to organise town’s festive lights.

But now the public is needed to make this year’s display a success.

Jax and Keith Robin, who had headed up the campaign for many years, stepped down at the start of this year.

Creaseys managing director Jonathan Creasey is stepping in as the new chairman, along with Balthazar’s Steve Le Poidevin, Guernsey Retail Group’s Victoria Taylor-Beard, St Peter Port constables Diane Mitchell and Ken Acott, Bailiwick Estates’ Sonia Taylor, and Visit Guernsey’s Zoe Gosling.

They will be supported by Wayne Bulpitt from the Association of Guernsey Charities.

‘We’re thrilled to be taking on this iconic part of Guernsey’s Christmas tradition,’ said Mr Creasey.

‘Our team is full of energy and ideas, and we’re working hard behind the scenes to brighten up St Peter Port this year.

‘We thank the outgoing committee, who have worked tirelessly for a number of years and look forward to building on the hard work they have put in to ensure the long-term future of the Christmas lights.’

Plans are under way to restore and repair the existing lighting and investigate enhanced decorations across key areas of town.

Preparations are also being made for the annual switch-on, which this year will be on Saturday 29 November.

Fundraising efforts will soon be in full swing, with the committee emphasising that the success of the lights depends on public support and collaboration.

As in previous years, a door drop will go out later this year, with funds raised helping the committee look to the future and what can be achieved.

This year a QR code will also be included to make donating that bit easier, something that will also be included on other promotional material.

‘Every little helps,’ said Mr Creasey.

‘While St Peter Port is home to the lights, the whole island benefits from the wonderful atmosphere that they bring to the capital, we really want the entire community to feel connected.’

More announcements will follow in the coming weeks.

There are various sponsorship opportunities, including becoming a sponsor of the Christmas Tree. To find out more, contact Steve Le Poidevin on christmaslights.gg@outlook.com.
