The closure comes following the death of owner Ralph Le Page in May this year.
The shop had been in his family for generations, and had been operating reduced opening hours recently as the family came to terms with his loss.
Future plans for the shop are not known and staff did not wish to speak about the closure when the Guernsey Press visited the centre yesterday.
However, customer John Mechem, a Cobo resident for 80 years, paid tribute to the business as he picked up his morning newspaper at the shop for the final time.
‘It will be a big loss to the area,’ he said
‘I’m a local lad and we always used to come in here as it was a good meeting place. I remember it being a post office first of all and then it sort of expanded around that.
‘It will be strange to see it gone.’
Several people have been bidding farewell to the shop on its Facebook page.
‘It’s so sad to see this shop close, but understandable at this time, good luck to all the lovely staff in their new lives,’ one person wrote.
‘Going to miss this shop and family,’ another said.
