The small electric car had been driving down La Folie Lane, a narrow road opposite the electric box, which is situated on the left hand side of Route Militaire, and drove straight across the road, knocking over the box before coming to a halt in the hedge.

The driver walked away unharmed as all three emergency services attended the scene.

PC Dan Osbourne said the accident happened just after 11am.

‘The driver did not need medical assistance. Police and fire services have remained and the road will remain closed until safe.’

Representatives from Guernsey Electicity arrived at 11.30am to assess the damage.

A Guernsey Electricity spokesman said the crash had damaged one of its distribution pillars and its engineers had attended promptly to investigate.

‘In the interest of public safety and to address the damaged asset, electricity supplies in the affected area were temporarily isolated. Power was restored to the majority of customers by 4pm, with work continuing to restore power to the remainder.’

Traffic & Highway Services said that due to the damage to the electricity distribution pillar the road was now expected to remain closed until at least Friday 31 October.
