Vraic, Welsh chef Nathan Davies’ new coastal fine-dining restaurant at Chouet, and Alba, David Matheson’s European fusion restaurant situated in Market Square, were the two restaurants selected by Michelin inspectors to feature in the guide, both establishments achieving this feat less than a year after opening.

‘Last week was a big week for us,’ said Mr Davies.

‘That’s step one really – our ambition is to try to achieve the pinnacle, which for us is a Michelin star.’

Vraic was described by the Michelin guide as ‘the very definition of a destination restaurant’, while Alba was called ‘a gem of a restaurant in the Guernsey dining scene’.

‘The Guernsey food scene is very strong,’ said Mr Davies, who expressed a particular admiration for all of the island’s small, traditional restaurants.

‘You see full restaurants, midweek dining – you don’t get that so much in the UK any more.’

Economic Development Committee president Sasha Kazantseva-Miller congratulated both restaurants on the recognition.
