The former Sixth Form Centre teacher took early retirement after a sabbatical opened her eyes to another world while travelling in 2022 and has since opened Wanderlust Surf camp in Sri Lanka where she now lives and works.

Today, back in Guernsey, she is hosting two events to encourage women like her who are in midlife and are ready to stop wondering and start doing.

‘I opened a spa and yoga studio out there with my other business partner and then came back to Guernsey, did my old job for a while to earn the money to come back out and open the surf camp, so our first full season was from May 2025,’ she said.

‘It’s been amazing.

‘It’s been about breaking down stereotypes as well. When people think of a surfer they don’t necessarily think of a 50-something slightly overweight woman.’

That is one of the themes that will come up in Ms Kellow’s talks today – the labels you want to have for yourself and those you do not.

Rachael Cumberland-Dodd will be interviewing Ms Kellow at the events at the Digital Greenhouse at 12.30 and the Chamber of Commerce at 5.30pm. Among the subjects they will discuss are labels, limitations and leverage for women going through menopause.

‘People see menopause as a negative thing and getting old, but for me it was quite positive,’ she said.

‘I think when you get to that point you have so much wisdom and skill – I had no idea what my skillset was until I was an older person surrounded by lots of younger people who want to learn from you.

‘You realise you manage things your whole life, but at menopause it’s time to stop and think “well what do I want to do?”.’
