Football community’s efforts will help those at home and away

The local football community has donated enough food and football kit for 86 food hampers for families in need and half a dozen bin-loads of boots and kit.

Victoria Park, the Guernsey FA, Guernsey FC and Aztech Soccer came together to support those in need in the local community and overseas.

The food collected is being distributed to Guernsey families, the boots to local schools, and kit to the overseas charity Friends of Romania.

‘The success of this scheme shows the true spirit of our island community, and we’ve been truly overwhelmed with the support we’ve received,’ said Victoria Park events co-ordinator and campaign manager Hayley Vance.

‘From local clubs and school groups to the general public, it has been fantastic to see everyone joining forces.

‘We are pleased that these efforts will make a real difference to those in need this Christmas.’

The organisations are partnering with the States in order to appropriately distribute the food parcels to families in need.

‘We know that Christmas can be a difficult time for some islanders, so these hampers will make a big difference,’ said a spokesman for States Family Support Services.

‘We’re really grateful to everyone who donated and also to the football family for working so hard to make this happen.’
