This will be the 67th year that it will gather to celebrate the life and works of poet Robert Burns and its traditional Burns Night dinner on Saturday 31 January is the biggest event in the Guernsey Scottish Association’s calendar.

The association is also teaming up with the Guernsey Raiders rugby club this coming Saturday for a Burns-themed day, where the local team will be piped out onto the pitch and traditional Scottish fayre will be served throughout the day, which features two matches, the Vikings against Millbrook at 12pm and Raiders against Oxford Quins at 2pm.

‘Burns Night is more than an event – it’s a tradition that brings together our community to celebrate Scottish culture and the enduring legacy of Robert Burns,’ said association president David McGall, who added that the evening had already had strong support and tables were filling fast.

Along with the opportunity for people to enjoy Scottish country dancing the event, sponsored by Titan Wealth, will include pipes and drums from Piping Guernsey, the traditional address to the haggis and Scottish poetry.

Joining the revellers will be Bailiff Sir Richard McMahon and Deputy Bailiff Jessica Roland.

Expert caller Stuart Hardie will be leading the ceilidh dancing with music from the Thistle Band.

Organiser Gill Mabbett said the money raised by the event will go to local charities.

The Guernsey Scottish Association has 300 members and was founded after the Second World War to foster the interest in and enjoyment of Scottish culture.

Its first members were Scots who had come to the island to work as well as those who had formed links with the country through the armed forces, or by being evacuated there.

The Burns Night celebration takes place on Saturday 31 January at Beau Sejour.

Anyone interested can book a table of 10 or attend individually by calling Audrey Keneally on 07781 124190 or emailing greendays@cwgsy.net. For more information about the association, go to www.guernseyscottish.org.gg.
