Jason Mroch, 56, of Les Petites Mielles, St Sampson’s, admitted the drink-drive offence when he appeared in the Magistrate’s Court.

The court heard that police were given information suggesting that the defendant would be driving away from The Trafalgar Inn in the Vale after having too much to drink.

He was seen to leave the pub and get in his car at 2.40pm.

When police officers went to his home he failed a roadside breath test and was arrested. A test at the Police Station identified 45mcg of alcohol per 100ml of his breath when the legal limit is 35.

He made admissions in interview saying that he normally got a lift home from the pub but had not done on this occasion. He had drunk three pints of beer when he normally had two. He had a previous conviction for a like offence but it was of some age.

Defending, Advocate Amy Davies said her client had not appreciated that he would be over the prescribed alcohol limit and there had been no concerns over the manner of his driving.

Judge Gary Perry said one matter of drink-driving on a person’s record was a mistake and two was total stupidity.

The fact that he thought he could drive home after drinking three pints showed that the only concern that he had had was for himself getting home.

He fined him £650 and suspended his driving licence for 18 months.
